The grandson of former president Nelson Mandela and the chief of Mvezo, Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela, has been fined R 10 000 or two years in jail by the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape.
R 2000 is suspended for a year, provided he doesn’t commit the same crime.
Two months ago Mandela was found guilty of assaulting Mthatha teacher Mlamli Ngudle in Sprigg Street two years ago.
The complainant, Ngudule, has expressed disappointment at the verdict handed down by the Mthatha magistrate court in the Eastern Cape.
Ngudle has been speaking after Mandela’s judgement on Wednesday morning. He says the verdict is an insult to the poor.
“I’m disappointed because it means every case can just be sold for less amount of money. As far as you can afford the money it means you can buy any case. That’s what it says.”
