e.tv lose Champions League rights
Cape Town – e.tv has lost the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League next season to SuperSport.
Monde Twala confirmed that the Champions League will not be screened by e.tv next season, reports The Media Online.
Twala, who is the managing director of e.tv’s Channel’s Division, that “SuperSport have acquired all the rights including pay-TV and free-to-air (FTA) as of October 2015”.
e.tv’s loss compounds the problems faced by the nation’s football fans following on the news that the SABC had lost the broadcast rights for Bafana Bafana fixtures.
The state broadcasters’ R45 million three-year deal ended at the start of May.
SuperSport now holds exclusive broadcast rights to the Champiosn League, the PSL, CAF rights – which makes provision for a select number of Bafana Bafana games.
