Bail decision today for wife-killer accused Rameez Patel
News from EYEWITNESS NEWS
The second bail application of murder accused Rameez Patel is underway in the Polokwane Magistrates Court this morning.
Patel appeared in the Polokwane District Court on Monday last week to appeal his first bail application which was denied earlier this month.
He’s accused of strangling, beating and shooting his wife Fatima last month.
Tumi Mokwena who represented Julius Malema is representing Patel.
Patel is adamant he didn’t kill his Fatima and maintains she was killed by a burglar who entered their rented town house complex.
He has pleaded not guilty and wants to be released on bail saying he was psychologically and emotionally affected by the murder.
Meanwhile, Fatima’s uncle, Farook Choonara, says the family wants justice to be served.
“We don’t want Rameez to get bail. We want him to remain in custody for the way he brutally killed Fatima.”
A ruling on the bail application is expected on Thursday.
