Gauteng braces for freezing temperatures

The South African Weather Service is warning people to brace themselves for even colder weather as temperatures drop further this winter.
Temperatures in Gauteng are currently in the mid teens, with Pretoria recording a maximum of 19 degrees celsius.
Forecaster Cobus Cronje says rain is also expected on Wednesday afternoon in Gauteng.
Cronje also says snow fall is expected in the eastern and western parts of the country.
“With this cut off low we are also seeing a cold front moving over the southern part of the country where we are expecting snowfalls on Wednesday over the central district, high lying areas of the Western Cape and as that system moves away this cut off lows starts dissipating we are also looking at snow tomorrow for the Eastern Cape high ground and over Lesotho.”

Meanwhile the Johannesburg Emergency Services are urging people using candles, paraffin stoves and heaters to handle them with care.
The South African Weather Service has forecast that temperatures will be at their lowest on Thursday since the beginning of this year.
Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe says: “These are the days where we get incidents especially with heaters, candles and “imbhawula”. We urge people not to leave those things around. Smoke inhalation is very dangerous as well, be careful and take care.
